Our community gathered in May 2024 to celebrate the successes of our DMHA-funded substance-use initiatives in our Southeastern Indiana community.

One Community One Family is a partnership working to improve the System of Care in Southeastern Indiana. In recent years, One Community One Family has broadened our scope of work to include supporting and serving individuals of all ages through a variety of initiatives, trainings, events, resources, and support. One Community One Family has placed an increased focus on substance-use initiatives, suicide prevention, and mental health training & awareness for the community at large. This is a whole community effort. By becoming more involved with our organization, you can play an important role in our ability to serve and impact the community we all live in.

Join our System of Care Meetings

A System of Care is a framework of collaboration across agencies, service providers, and families with the goal of improving services and supports for all youth and families. This requires a commitment to expanding and transforming systems and communities in order to better support families. The focus is both direct service level work with families and system level work to improve organizations that serve families through a focus upon strengths, needs, and solution-focused efforts across an entire community.

One Community One Family’s System of Care meetings bring together community partners to discuss our Southeastern Indiana System of Care and to collaborate on events, resources, initiatives and more with the aim of improving our System of Care. The range of our System of Care includes the following Indiana counties: Dearborn, Decatur, Franklin, Ohio, Ripley, and Switzerland.

One Community One Family’s System of Care meetings take place the first Wednesday of every month from 9:00 to 10:15am. You can join these meetings by emailing Jodi Alexander at jalexander@onecommunityonefamily.org. Your voice and ideas are valuable in shaping the future of our community’s System of Care!

You can also learn about other community and coalition meetings within our community by visiting our Community & Coalitions Meetings Calendar on our website.

Attend or Sponsor Our Mental Health First Aid and Question Persuade Refer Training Sessions

QPR Training Photo in Brookville Indiana
Community members attended this Question Persuade Refer suicide prevention training in Brookville, Indiana during July 2024. The training itself was sponsored by United Way of Ripley and Franklin Counties Indiana, and trainees also received Naloxone training thanks to a sponsorship from the Franklin County Indiana Health Department.

One Community One Family connects our local community with vital mental health trainings like Question Persuade Refer (QPR) suicide prevention training and Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training so that individuals are prepared to make a difference when it matters most. These critical trainings empower individuals to respond effectively to mental health crises. Whether you attend these sessions or sponsor them to enable others to participate, you play a crucial role in expanding mental health literacy in our community.

Visit the "Participate in a Training" page on our website to learn more about both trainings and to register for an upcoming training session. If you would like to see a future MHFA or QPR training session in your Southeastern Indiana area, please fill out and submit our quick training interest form to let us know. And if you would like to help sponsor the costs for any upcoming or future trainings, please email Jodi Alexander at jalexander@onecommunityonefamily.org.

Volunteer with the LIF²T Team

If you have been touched by the tragedy of a suicide or substance-related death, you know how painful and isolating it can be. The LIF²T Team (Loss Initiatives for Families & Friends Together) provides assistance to family members and friends who lose a loved one to substance-related death or suicide. We recognize the need for additional grief support in our area, and this is a proven way to provide that support both immediately on-scene and through scheduled follow-ups over time. This support is invaluable, providing hope and connection during the darkest times for survivors of suicide and substance-related losses.

The LIF²T Team is made up of volunteers who have lost a loved one to a suicide or substance-related death, anyone with a background in grief support, or anyone who has a passion for helping other. This team works in partnership with One Community One Family, INcompass Healthcare (the local community mental health center), the Dearborn County Coroner's Office, and law enforcement. Services provided by this team are completely voluntary and at no-cost.

LIF²T is always looking for more volunteers to join their team. If you have lost a loved one to a suicide or a substance-related death, and would like to help others during their time of need, please register here: https://forms.gle/4e6VmTmohMcjK44C6.
